Drink Water to Lose Weight Faster

Weight Loss August 25th, 2009

Did you know, that the world’s best thirst quencher water? Forget the Gatorade commercials.  While most of us are aware that we need about 8 glasses per day, most of us assume in error that other sorts of liquids will give us just as much benefit as straight water. Water has the same affect on our bodies that running water has in a river. It cleans us, flushing through pollutants that are harmful to our organs. When we drink other liquids, we negate the effect water will have on cleaning us out, because the additions to  the liquid have to flush through us. Water diluted with other things can only pick up so much excess baggage on it’s way though our bodies. That means waste material stays in our bodies longer, leading to medical conditions whose blame is very rarely assigned to water. Water is the best beverage you can drink, and here are a few reasons why:

Water serves to hydrate our internal organs, making them more likely to function properly.  When organs such as our liver, kidneys and other organs are hydrated, it’s like giving them a bath. It cleans us out. As a point of fact, drinking water is one of the best ways to keep acne at bay. When we fill up on water which is calorie free, weight control is easier. Water is a big part of what regulates body temperature, and gives us more energy. Those who drink enough water will lose weight 3% faster than those who don’t.

Studies show that feelings of hunger and thirst are triggered together. If you are dehydrated, your body might mistakenly tell you that you are hungry, when water would fill the bill. Since most food contains some water, if you don’t drink much you might be subconsciously driven to consume more food to gain water your body craves. However, you will also likely gain weight. Drinking more water is an important part of controlling overeating.

We need eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. If you are on a weight loss diet, it is very important to drink more and to continue drinking water throughout the day, unless you have any medical condition that makes fluid intake dangerous. Here’s a good rule of thumb about your water consumption:

Drink 1 ounce of water for every two pounds that you weigh. For example, a 200 pound person would be smart to drink approximately 100 ounces (12.5 cups) of water per day. A 100 pound person could, of course drink half of that and be just as healthy.

If you exercise as part of your weight loss regiment, Drink more water to account for water you lose while sweating. Drinking water before, during and after exercise will aid in keeping your energy levels high. It will also help you recover more quickly after training. If you absolutely must drink flavored liquid instead of water, consider pure unsweetened fruit juice (not from concentrate). The nutrients and vitamins in fruit juices are a healthy alternative and are better for your body than chemicals like aspartame, often found in diet sodas or suger rich electrolyte replacement beverages such as Gatorade.  May you find yourself healthier as the result of being mindful of consuming more water, nature’s best beverage!
