If there is one mantra that’s thrown around far too much in the weight loss world, it is that you absolutely need to exercise to lose any weight. From simple jogging to ultra-complex weight routines, the world of weight loss has always operated on the assumption that weight loss simply won’t come without any physical exertion.
The problem is, it is simply not true. Exercise is only one part of weight loss, and it is not a particularly important part either. Talk to any fitness guru and they will very quickly tell you that weight loss is mostly about diet, and just a very small portion of any weight loss results come from exercise. So, put your running routine on hold for a while, get your notebook, and add these four 100% exercise-free principles into your weight loss routine.

#1: The timing of your meals is just as important as the content.
Far too many people think that weight loss is about eating less. From ultra-small meals to days with eating only breakfast, some people try anything to lose weight. Losing weight is not exactly about eating less, it is about eating intelligently and at different times. Instead of having one or two meals per day, split your food intake across four or five smaller meals, each timed throughout the day so that you are never too hungry at once.

#2: Minimize your carbohydrate intake, except surrounding exercise.
Low-carb dieting is accepted as a great way to lose weight, but too many people end up taking the low-carb philosophy too far. Carbohydrates are best avoided for weight loss, but they should always be included in your diet during certain parts of the day. If you are incorporating exercise, whether aerobic or anaerobic, into your weight loss routine, treat yourself to small amounts of carbohydrates before and after your exercise routine. Carbohydrates will help your body absorb protein, which is essential for maintaining muscle and strength while you lose fat.

#3: Fats are not always bad.
In many ways, fats are a good thing for losing weight. As bizarre as it may seem, incorporating more fats into your diet can often help you lose weight and minimize the amount of excess calories you consume. In addition to that, mono and poly-unsaturated fats are important for proper hormone balancing and heart strength. Weight loss is about minimizing your calories, not disrupting your fat intake. Balance your calories, but do not leave good fats out of your diet entirely.

#4: Supplements can be helpful.
One of the major problems affecting dieters is the loss of strength with their lost weight. From decreases in muscle mass to drops in body strength and pushing power, athletes are always looking for ways to drop weight without losing their strength. One of those is to supplement their diets intelligently. By using protein supplements, you can maintain muscle mass and strength while losing fat. Using stimulants, you can increase your metabolism and speed up weight loss. Supplements are available for all kinds of diet activities, and by strategically incorporating them into your weight loss routine, you can lose weight without losing strength and energy.

For those of us wanting to lose weight, the thought of a restrictive diet or hours pounding the treadmill can be discouraging. Long term weight loss requires discipline and commitment, a healthy balanced diet and moderate exercise. However there are special foods that can give you a helping hand when it comes to losing weight. These five super foods help to lose the pounds and keep them off.
Oats

Not all carbohydrates are equal in nutritional benefits. Unlike other carbohydrates like bread or pasta, oats are processed slowly by our digestion system, which helps to stabilise blood sugar levels, keeping you feeling full for longer. The reason is the high amount of fibre found in oats. “Both types of fibre, insoluble and soluble, can help your weight loss efforts,” says Joy Bauer, M.S., R.D., C.D.N., the Yahoo! Health Expert for Nutrition.

Steak

Protein is essential in a healthy, balanced diet, but it can also help you to shed weight. The key is in choosing lean meat, so steer clear of well marbled rump cuts. A study conducted by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that a diet that included red meat was better for weight loss compared to an equal calorie diet that did not include any beef. Manny Noakes, Ph.D, the author of this study, says “the protein in steak helps retain muscle mass during weight loss.” An independent study published by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign came to the same conclusion, stating that “protein helps to maintain muscle, which in turn helps the body burn more calories”

Grapefruit

A perennial favourite with many dieters, grapefruit has proven properties as a fat fighting food. Scripps Clinic, California, published a study in 2004 which found that eating grapefruit before a main meal helps weight loss. The natural sugar found in grapefruit helps to lower insulin levels, which helps to stabilise blood sugar levels and reduces hunger pangs.

Chillies and peppers

Researchers from the Laval University in Canada have found that capsaicin, the active chemical that gives chillies and peppers their trademark spicy kick, can help to burn fat and stop you from feeling hungry. Published in the British Journal of nutrition, the results show that capsaicin converts the calories from the food eaten immediately to heat, which reduces the calories stored as fat. This process is called thermogenesis and studies show that when spicy food makes people feel less hungry and therefore they eat smaller portions at subsequent meals.

Green tea

Not strictly a food, green tea has been drunk in the East for its health benefits for many generations. A chemical found in green tea called EGCG increases your metabolism, which in turn helps to burn more calories. Studies from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition have shown that EGCG found in green tea helps people to burn energy faster compared to those who do not include green tea in their diet and it also helps to reduce existing body fat.

Everyone knows the major drawback of losing weight on a diet: When you stop dieting, the weight comes back.

Medical science, of course, is designed only to assist your weight reduction goals as long as you are paying a hefty monthly fee for prescription drugs. When you stop the medications, your appetite recovers and you are primed to eat enough to restore all your lost weight and more. Fortunately, you may be able to keep off those hard-lost pounds by making minor changes in your environment.

For some people just looking at the box food comes in can trigger an increase in appetite. Really!

For reasons scientists have never really figured out, if you see food in a box that’s long and tall sitting on the shelf, your appetite increases. If you lay the box on its side, or if you store your food in plastic bags or short glass jars, you don’t get as hungry as fast. Your appetite is activated any time you see a neat row of boxes lined up on a shelf, even if all you see is the nutrition labels.

Or maybe you are the kind of person who has the Homer Simpson reaction to doughnuts. There are reasons these round tasty treats are so irresistible. Our eyes are round. A round object fills our field of vision. When we look at a doughnut, or a cake, or a bowl of ice cream, our mind fixes on food.

The moral of the story? Out of sight, out of mouth. Keep your cupboards closed and quickly put your perishables in the frig when you come home from the market.

But if you are one the tens of millions of dieters who has to keep food out of sight to maintain self-control, don’t feel bad. Current scientific research suggests thinking about food-or not thinking about food-has very little effect on appetite by itself. What you need to do when you can’t find the “self-control” get a particular food off your mind is to find another, completely different food you also like (such as chocolate chip cookies instead of pizza), and eat normally.

Federoff I et al. The specificity of restrained versus unrestrained eaters’ response to food cues: general desire to eat, or craving for the cued food? Appetite. 2003 Aug; 41(1): 7-13.

If you have ever tried to lose weight and become fitter, you probably know that radical changes to your lifestyle are difficult to sustain. Instead of giving up, why not try a different approach to changing your habits? A series of small changes over an extended period of time can make a huge difference to your life. As an added bonus, small changes are much easier to maintain than radical changes.

There are many small initial changes that you can make to your eating and exercise habits to help you to improve your health. Here are some ideas:

Eat one piece of fresh fruit with your breakfast each day.

Take one piece of fresh fruit to work with you for your morning or afternoon snack.

Eat a sandwich packed with salad for lunch.

Eat a portion of vegetables or a salad with your evening meal.

Drink one extra cup of water per day.

Do some gentle stretching exercises early in the morning.

Get off the subway, bus or train one stop before your usual stop and walk the rest of the way to work.

Go for a fifteen minute walk at lunchtime.

Walk up the stairs rather than taking the elevator.

Replace 20 minutes of television watching time with active housework or gardening.

To increase your chances of success, choose the small change that will be easiest for you to implement each day and repeat it for at least 14 days. If possible, do the required action at the same time each day. For example, it is easier to drink water early in the morning when your body is craving liquid after a night’s sleep, so you could commit yourself to drinking a cup of water as soon as you get up.

It is a good idea to write down the change you are making in a diary and to check off each day on which you successfully apply the change. This will help you to remain motivated. If, for some reason, you miss a day or two, don’t worry. Just carry on until you have completed the action on each day for 14 days.

It takes approximately two weeks for a new action to become a habit. So, once you are confident that the new habit is part of your daily routine, choose a new positive change and repeat it for 14 days. At the same time, continue with the first habit, which by now should be something you do without thinking about. It is, however, a good idea to continue to record your progress so that you avoid slipping back into your former habits.

If you repeat these patterns over the course of a year, you will have made around 25 small changes to your life. You will be feeling fitter and healthier and it is very likely that you will have lost some weight. The old adage, “slow but steady wins the race” is definitely true. All of your small changes will add up to a substantial change for the better.

Don’t underestimate the power of fat. Fat makes fat. Develop new, healthier habits and say goodbye to extra pounds.

There are 120 calories in seemingly innocuous vegetable oil. There is fat in lean meat and fish. There is fat in nuts and seeds. There is fat … even in oatmeal! So, even if you make healthier food choices, you’ll still get fat to keep your skin supple.

While fat does make food tasty, you can train your palate to enjoy foods seasoned with healthy herbs like rosemary, garlic, oregano and parsley. You also can learn to avoid fried foods, sauces and gravies which contain fat, butter and oils. Choose chicken and turkey breast without skin, or fish. Be discerning. Read labels.

Be careful not to compensate with empty-calorie foods like soft drinks, sugar-laden desserts or candies. They have unnecessary calories as well. Choose fruit for dessert or make a dessert sweetened with stevia, which has zero calories. You can substitute another low calorie sweetener if you wish.

Here are some more tips:

* Dry grill your meat. When you eat out, ask them if they will dry grill it for you.

* Skip the oil when you make homemade casseroles, rice, beans, and other dishes. If you absolutely have to have a little oil, don’t feel guilty. Just do what you can.

* While chocolate is delicious, it often contains a lot of fat and sugar which we’d be better off without. Opt for cocoa, especially dark cocoa, and mix it with skim milk and/or plain yogurt. Use stevia or a low-calorie sweetener and enjoy.

* Cheese often has quite a bit of fat. Limit your quantity or choose non-fat cheese. There is not as much variety, but it is worth it.

* Don’t drink whole milk. Choose skim or at least one or two percent fat milk.

* Enjoy healthy snacks like popcorn without butter. You can sprinkle your popcorn with non-fat cheese, garlic powder or garlic salt, and basil. Experiment until you get the taste you enjoy.

* Whenever you use oil, use it sparingly.

* If you like nuts, eat in small quantities and opt for dry roasted.

* Eat the egg white only or try an egg substitute without fat.

Let’s face it, there’s nothing quite like the thought of dieting to invoke a sudden and uncontrollable urge for fries and chocolate. It’s a psychological adverse reaction and it pretty well guarantees that any diet sheet is going to either fail or reduce the follower to near terminal depression for its duration.

Food is one of life’s greatest pleasures and spending jaw aching time clawing dry toast and peanut butter from the roof of your mouth is simply unacceptable and more importantly, unsustainable. When the diet’s over the food deprivation compensation trigger activates and before you know it you’re wearing loose tops that fall over your waistband and the whole cycle begins anew.

But it doesn’t have to be like that.
Weight control is within everyone’s grasp if you just apply some psychology and common sense and follow a few simple rules.

Re-think the vocabulary. Trying to lose weight is a negative activity; even the term ‘lose’ implies a loss, a giving up, a sacrifice and the human psyche doesn’t respond well to self sacrifice. If you want to change the way you look you’re going to have to convince your psyche that this is something it’s going to enjoy. Set a date for the future when you intend to begin your new life and start thinking about all the positives that are lying in wait.

Stop using the term ‘lose weight’ and start thinking about gaining your ideal size.

Don’t fixate on ‘giving up’ the food you enjoy, concentrate on discovering fabulous new dishes. Collect tasty soup and salad recipes and try them out.

Don’t think in days; looking sustainably good will take 2 or 3 months to achieve but once you get there, you can stay there.

Don’t think diet, think new life and the realisation that you can look and feel as good as you want to, for as long as you want to.

Dump the scales. Let’s be honest, no-one needs a set of scales to tell them when they’re overweight, a full length mirror will do that for you. There’s nothing more de-motivating than stepping onto a scales when you consider that you’ve been really good all week only to find that you’ve gained instead of lost. Weight loss and increase is simply not that instant. There’s always a time delay involved which can lead to some serious self-delusion when that extra large tub of chocolate chip ice cream you ate yesterday doesn’t seem to have added a single ounce to your weight!

Lose the fat. This is the time to use those negative phrases; lose the fat from your life. Stop frying and start grilling, draining off excess fat from the grill as it forms. Avoid foods with a high fat content and don’t add butter to potatoes. When a recipe calls for cream, use natural yoghurt instead, preferably Greek; all the flavour without the excessive fat.

Cut out bread. This one simple rule will have a devastating effect on your weight. In the mornings, dump the toast or sugar rich cereals and head for the fruit bowl. At lunch time go for soup and salad. Prepare a big pan of soup on Sunday and keep in a sealed container in the fridge. Abandon your old ideas of what a salad should look like and use your imagination, throwing in a little of what you fancy will turn a dull salad into a treat and then a habit.

Fool your stomach. Think of your stomach as a balloon; the more you put in, the greater it will expand, reduce the contents and the balloon will shrink. Our eating habits teach our stomach how much food to expect before it can feel comfortably full. The trick is to gradually reduce the size of your portions so that your stomach shrinks in response.
Use your eyes to help fool your stomach by simply using smaller plates; you’ll be amazed how psychologically effective that one small trick is.

Enjoy yourself. Life’s too short to spend it depriving yourself of everything you love. Once you’ve reached your ideal size, use the 80:20 rule; if you’re good 80% of the time, you can happily sin for the other 20%.
Make it your food philosophy for life.

Take the carrot – the vegetable your mother always told you to eat because it’s good for. She was right. This versatile root is perfect in stews, pot roasts, salads, and stir fries or raw. It’s a nutritional powerhouse of beta carotene, vitamin A and C, fibre, calcium, and complex carbohydrates. Yet it’s part of the modern day eating dilemma. Carrots can be genetically modified; they might have other DNA from other plants or even animals. Other modern day carrot dilemmas include irradiation and pesticide spraying. Many low carbohydrate diets restrict carrot intake because of their sugar and carbohydrate content. If carrots aren’t safe or right for everyone, what food is?

In the last twenty years people have endured many food scares, cholesterol in eggs, sodium in salt, mad cow’s disease, cancer and diabetes causing sweeteners, and trans fats contributing to heart disease. Almost everyday, there are newspaper articles about unsafe or unhealthy foods and how our crops are altered, or/and sprayed. Reading the newspapers and watching the news it’s easy to get the impression that all food either causes cancer, other diseases or is responsible for the obesity epidemic.

Is our ambivalence to food merely media induced, and part of living in a mechanized world where we live separately from the natural world and therefore our food production, or have similar concerns always plagued us?

There are two parts of the great eating dilemma; global issues, sustainability and the food humanitarian cause, and weight reduction. Food manufacturers and restaurants struggle to please everyone with organic vegetarian and low calorie, low carbohydrate choices. Fast food restaurants in the last ten years offer healthier choices with salads and low carbohydrate meals. Still our ambivalence towards food continues, we don’t trust it, we worry about which foods cause cancer or make us fat. We have concerns our food’s purity. More information makes us even more uneasily. Many of us can’t understand the three- syllable- ten- letter words on the ingredients labels; we know their probably chemicals but what kind and what they do to us. Since, food is a necessity as well a pleasure, is it normal for us to fret about it especially in times of abundance?

For most of human history finding enough food was the great struggle. Gathering roots, nuts, berries and fruit and hunting and scavenging took a great deal of energy and insured people stayed at their optimal weight.

We have always been anxious about food. Not everything in the natural world is eatable. People in hunting and gathering societies needed to know what they could and could not eat. Since humans travelled widely in order to hunt and gather food, this was never easy. We had to know which fern or root or grain in the natural world we could eat safely. We built up a natural wariness to unfamiliar foods. Children are picky for a good reason; they have a natural instinct that not all foods are good for them. Anything that looks like food could be poison.

Meat has long been part of the human diet yet we feel uneasy about it. Many hunting and gathering societies developed prayers, incantations and rituals surrounding the killing and eating animals. Even in agricultural societies there were animal slaughter taboos and rituals. The Hindu prohibition against eating cows in India came about because they were more valuable for their milk and work then their meat. The biblical prohibition against cooking a kid in its mother’s milk is based on humanitarian concerns. In the Middle East, shepherds kept animals they could use alive rather than raising them only for meat. Unlike sheep, cows and goats a pig’s value was only in its death, hence the Hebrew bible and Koran’s prohibitions against eating pig. The Romans had a different attitude towards food and ate what they could, including pig’s meat which they salted and fed their army.

With the development of agriculture people stayed in one place raising animals and tilling their own soil. Agriculture could maintain a larger population base. On good years agriculture meant a steady source of food but less variety than hunting and gathering. It also meant more carbohydrates such as wheat, rye in Europe, rice in India and corn in the Americas and more animal by-products such as eggs and milk. Until recently, most people couldn’t afford to eat meat more than a few times a year. Richer people grew fatter and this was a sign of wealth. A major drawback to early agriculture was famine, people could no longer easily move to where there was food since they now owned land and so did everyone around them.

In pre- agrarian societies, people gathered grains, pounded and boiled them creating porridge, rich in nutrients and fibre. The Ancient Egyptians invented the saddle stone and later yeast. By 500 BC the Greeks combined flour mills and bakeries. The Romans introduced refined food, and white bread. Their stone milling ground their wheat so they extracted much of the bran in the process. The more grains are milled and refined the less bran they contain.

Over eating wasn’t considered a problem to the Romans and they saw it as a sign of prestige.
According to the Church, gluttony contributed to other sins such as sloth, and lust. Most restricted diets during the medieval period were for religious reasons and to stave off gluttony. Christian religious dietary restraints included eating fish on Friday and observing various restrictions on Lent. Monks and nuns often subsisted on near vegetarian bland diets.

In the 1700s, a world economy made refined sugar widely available along with new foods like corn and potatoes. Poor people could afford root vegetables, especially potatoes which grew well in small plots but meat was still a luxury. Cooks spread out meat in stews or pies to save money. With better methods of refining food, people could eat more white breads and polished white rice. Few cared that refined grains contained less fibre, or realized that fibre and bran were important. Rich and even middle class people started to gain weight and attitudes towards weight gain slowly changed. People knew if you didn’t eat you would starve but many people who ate a great deal stayed thin, so weight gain was still a mystery. Most people considered obesity bad luck.

Since it was men who were riding horses, fencing and hunting, they were the ones concerned about weight. Then, people believed a man should cut a fine figure look like he could go on a hunt. One popular weight reduction remedy was to pour vinegar on food or drink it. Lord Byron worried about his weight since it interfered with his riding ability dipped his food in vinegar.

Before the 19th century, women were exempt from dieting. Since the 1600’s to the end of the 19th century women’s clothing formed their bodies with the help of hoops, corsets, crinolines and bustles. Almost any women could have the right body. Since a woman’s body was in constant flux from growing into puberty, to pregnancies, breast feeding and menopause, it seemed nonsensical to many, to insist women stayed the same weight or could have any control over their size. There were no such excuses for men.

During the industrial revolution we became alienated from our food source as people worked in factories and lived in urban areas. Massed produced bread in the late 1800s had even less bran than the Roman kind. As people became more urban and worked in factories the problems of feeding the populous became more urgent. Farming techniques struggled to keep up with demand, and so did food production. Feeding large urban areas often meant root vegetables which have a longer shelve life than greens and white bread since it stored better than whole wheat.

The old food concerns re-emerged in the middle of the 19th century. There were small groups of people who worried about the state of food and eating habits. Early vegetarians saw eating meat was unnecessary, cruel and a waste of farm land which could be set aside for more vegetables. The first Vegetarian society was in 1847 in England.

In America around 1830, Sylvester Graham deplored the state of modern mass produced bread. He believed in home made whole wheat bread made from pure ingredients using pure water. He was also against spices, meat and butter. He believed people should have a restricted diet not because of weight concerns but because of gluttony. His followers believed a restricted plainer but wholesome diet would result in better health. They also believed in the healing powers of ‘pure water’ to cure diseases. So, both the American Vegetarian movement, along with concerns for the state of our food and the dieting craze all started around the same time and stem from similar concerns. People began to think about what they were eating.

In 1863 William Banting went on the first recorded regimented weight loss diet. He restricted his meals to green vegetables, lean beef, poultry – no pork- , eggs, dry wine and toast. He believed the starch in bread burnt off when it was toasted. After he lost fifty pounds, he wrote the first diet book. This diet differed from Graham’s because it contained meat though only lean and wine. Bantings is often credited with starting the first truly low carbohydrate diet. He was also primarily concerned with weight reduction.
It was in the middle of the 19th century when two kinds of dietary regimes began to take hold on the English and North American people, vegetarianism and loss weight dieting. Meantime because of higher farm yields and more efficient food processing, food became more plentiful and fattening with white bread, bakery goods, candy and corn syrup.

Women began to diet as a response to the suffrage, and sensible clothing movements. As women’s dresses became less constraining and more revealing, women became more self conscious about their bodies. At the end of the 19th century women were working in offices, stores and as bank tellers. They were walking in city centers and parks. Once the bicycle was in general use and more women took up the sport, women wore pantaloons and discarded the corset for the more forgiving girdle. A thin woman was a modern woman who could play tennis, work in a bank or in an office; ride a bicycle, fit in a car, cut her hair short and wear form fitting short clothes. By the 1920’s people began to see fat women as lacking self control and had to wear dull clothes in order appear like more desirable and active modern thin women.

In the twentieth century, dieticians prescribed low calorie, low fat diets for women; they allowed meat but only lean. Calorie counting became the only serious way to weight loss. With new knowledge of nutrition it became a women’s job to maintain her family’s health. She had to maintain a healthy fat free diet for her family and set an example.

Also while only a minority of people reframed from eating meat, meat eating curtailed somewhat. In 18th and early 19th century cook books there were recipes for hare, rabbit, pheasant, goose, ducks, mutton, bison, and venison by the mid – 19th century beef, chicken and pork became the primary meats in North America with the occasional lamb.

Due to concentrated farming techniques, food producers could economically raise large numbers of specific animals better than others for slaughter. Food producers raise chickens in small cages in large factories. Consumers saw chickens as stupid and not much better than vegetables but they valued chicken’s lean meat. The lean Salisbury steak redeemed beef but it was never as virtuous as white meat, chicken.
It wasn’t until the 1890s when a chemist Atwater discovered food properties, fats, proteins and carbohydrates that people could understand the differences in the nutritional value of foods. Frederick Hopkins’s discovered little growth factors in 1906 in 1912 Cashmir Funk called these ‘vitamins’ as they were vital for life. In WWII scientists debated the merits of injecting vitamins especially B1 into highly refined white bread. The process of getting rid of nutrients in traditional whole wheat bread through milling and then adding the nutrients seemed their only recourse. Scientists, industry and government officials didn’t believe most people would go back to eating whole wheat.

Since that time, governments have supervised our foods, making sure they have added nutrients. Almost all prepared foods, especially staples like milk, bread, cereal and even frozen fries have added vitamins. Instead of promoting whole wheat bread, governments and food companies preferred to add vitamins.

Pesticides increased food production and promised endless bountiful harvests. To many this seemed as though a new age of food abundance. In 1962, Rachel Carson exposed the downside of DDT. She saw how modern farming methods were destroying the environment and wrote about it in ‘Silent Spring.’ Not only were new pesticides harmful to birds and many other creatures but also to humans. This gave birth to the ecology movement and later to organic farming. People started to question scientific breakthroughs in food production. A growing distrust of scientists tampering with our food began.

The groundbreaking book, Diet for a Small Planet, 1971 by Frances Moore Lappe, started a revolution. Young people questioned the inhumanity of meat eating and the sustainability of meat production. That ancient flesh eating wariness surfaced. Lappe saw our meat eating culture as wasteful since farm animals eat crops we could eat. Our land could grow far more crops than it could support animals for food. Growing numbers of people became vegetarian and even vegans- spurning all animal by products including eggs and milk.

The bucolic farm yard of times past now turned into food production factories. People became aware of the inhumane conditions of farm animals. Organic farming started with crops but eventually included animals. Organic meats and eggs were in many people’s mind a good comprise to going vegan and shunning all meat and animal by-products.

Even amongst meat eaters, there were signs of wanting fewer animal by-products. People who could afford lard and butter began to buy vegetable shortening and margarine. They avoided fat, especially animal fat for both health and humanitarian reasons. The cholesterol scares of the 70s and 80s decreased butter and egg sales. It wasn’t just weight or pesticides or humanitarian concerns, now there were many other health related concerns. People weren’t sure how much they should eat of any one food and scientists were often vague and contradictory about it all.

Other foods were scrutinized. Doctors warned patients too much salt could cause high blood pressure. While everyone knew sugar caused weight gain and diabetes every type of sugar substitute seemed to cause cancer. We hear about these scares, on the news, read about them in our newspapers on now on the net but then they disappear replaced by new ones. This causes more confusion as we’re not sure if it’s safe to eat eggs or salt. Trans fats are the latest food scare, doctors warn us they could cause heart disease and they like corn syrup are in countless prepared and fast foods.

Our growing food dilemma parallels growing government distrust. The more we become alienated from our food the more we distrust it and the increasing varsities of food don’t help. We are unsure of the value and safety of processed foods. Remember the irradiation scare? Scientists assured us it was safe. Irradiated food would have a long shelf life but consumers didn’t want it. It sounded scary, as does genetically modified food despite promises of a world without pesticides. Since DDT we don’t trust scientists to mess with our food.

Meanwhile because of the preponderance of cheap processed fast food people are getting heavier, obesity is of epidemic proportions especially amongst lower income people. The National Health Interview Study reveals 26 percent of those whose income is less than $17,000 are obese compared to 18 percent for those individuals making over $67,000 per year. Now it’s the poor who are fat instead of the rich. It should be as simple as eat less, exercise more but for anyone who has battled the bulge, it isn’t. Rich people can afford organic low carbohydrate and low fat food. Thinness is a sign of wealth. Since special diet foods are big business they target middle class and rich people. Diet gurus rarely consider lower income people. Fast foods which are usually high in calories and carbohydrates are also cheap. Busy people on a limited income want fast cheap food that fills them up. Single working parents on low incomes have little choice except to feed their families at fast food restaurants or prepared foods rich in corn syrups, salt and trans fats. While many people would like to eat organic food, most simply can’t afford it.

We finally live in a world where meat is cheap and readily available thanks to intensive cattle practise and refrigeration. Yet, its fraught with problems, there are scares about its safety, diseases, feed and hormones. The mad cow scare ironically appeared right after low carbohydrate diets made eating meat if not moral then at least acceptable because of the promise of a quick weight loss fix. Mad Cow and foot and mouth disease along with the avarian flew confirm what our ancestors knew; sometimes food can be poison.

The latest mega diet trend, low carbohydrate diets such as Atkiens and South Beach seem to be the antithesis of the organic vegetarian movement but it isn’t. Both distrust accepted medical and scientific claims. The organic movement doesn’t believe are food sources are safe or healthy despite government inspections and assurances. The low carbohydrate diets don’t believe in the accepted wisdom of counting calories and restricting fat. Most of the carbohydrates we eat retain the starch of their healthier counterparts but less of their nutrients even in enriched foods. Low carbohydrate diets are beneficial to people suffering from obesity and diabetes. Also these diets made eating meat acceptable in the same way that saying prayers and ancient rituals did. Our appetite for meat never left most of us. Still after the Mad Cow scares low carbohydrate diets changed, adding more green vegetables and leaner white meats looking more like Banting’s old diet without the white toast.

Despite all the emphasis on food and dieting, we are not getting skinnier. In fact the more hoopla there is about dieting the heavier we get. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey today’s adults ages 20 to 74 are twice as likely to be obese than adults in the late 1970s. The vast majority of people who go on a diet don’t stay on it for longer than a year and almost always gain back all their weight. The dieting culture isn’t working. It’s targeting the wrong people. The emphasis is on weight loss for its own sake instead of good health and fitness.

Faced with perhaps too much knowledge, we all struggle with the right diet, the one that’s fair to the environment, keeps us healthy, slim and we can afford. It’s a huge balancing act. Everyone has to decide for themselves what’s important in feeding themselves, and what will work for them. In the meantime we all have to eat. We have no other choice.

So what should we do? Buy a variety of foods and read the labels, remember less is often more when it comes to prepared foods. If you can’t afford to buy organic buy local produce. Trust your own judgement and common sense. If you truly need to go on a diet, talk to your doctor first; get as much information as you can. Allow yourself to enjoy eating. And eat those carrots – in moderation- they really are good for you!

The Sugar Buster diet is based on 30 percent carbohydrates, 40 percent fat and 30 percent protein. It allows you to enjoy dairy products, fruit, olive oil, poultry, red meat and vegetables. White bread, rice, pasta and potatoes and sugar are not allowed. Whole wheat bread, pasta and oats are permitted.

If you follow the Sugar Buster diet for two weeks, you should lose weight. This is because you have cut sugar out of your diet and has nothing to do with the natural insulin your body produces. The idea that insulin causes you to gain weight is a myth. You cannot gain weight if you are burning all of the calories that you take in. Being overweight is caused by overeating and lack of exercise, as well as eating too much fat or foods that are high in calories.

Sugar Busters claim that sugar, not fat cause’s excess body weight. They advise that people wanting to lose weight eat according to the Glycemic Index.

The cons to the Sugar Buster diet far outweigh the pros. Sugar is not toxic to our bodies and insulin produced by the pancreas does not cause us to gain weight. This diet is very hard for vegetarians to follow, as it is high in meats and it doesn’t put enough significance on calorie intake. We all know that if we eat too many calories that the result will be weight gain.

Though there are many myths associated to the Sugar Buster diet, it is still recommended for weight loss. It promotes healthy eating which in itself will help you to lose weight. However, pay little or no attention to the sugar-is-bad for us factor and concentrate on the calories you eat and those which you burn. A good balance here will provide you with gradual weight loss, which is better than a quick loss of weight. Research proves that gradual weight loss is more apt to be a permanent thing that those pounds that are lost quickly.

Keep focused, follow the Sugar Buster diet, exercise and you will trim off a few pounds with a couple of weeks.

Breastfeeding is probably the most natural act that a woman can do. Providing your newborn child nourishment during the early months of life has been proven to provide so many health benefits for both mother and child. Some studies show that immune systems are given a boost when breastfeeding. Others state that breastfed babies have the ability to learn more quickly than babies that are not breastfed. Breastfeeding may reduce the instances of breast cancer. Plus, there are those that say breastfeeding is the ultimate in bonding experiences between mother and child.

Many women look to breastfeeding for all that, plus weight loss!

During the months that baby is developing inside, weight gain is necessary for the health and well-being of the child. Most new moms, after that bundle arrives, are looking for quick and easy ways to take off the weight they gained during pregnancy and have their pre-pregnancy bodies back. Through the grapevine of other moms and the media, they have heard breastfeeding can help. Unfortunately, what many moms don’t know is that rapid weight loss while breastfeeding can put your baby’s health at risk.

Weight loss IS easier when breastfeeding, but losing more than four pounds a month while breastfeeding is not recommended. When you experience accelerated weight loss of more than that amount, substances called ketones are produced by the body. The lack of calories from the attempt at rapid weight loss will not just diminish the nutrition of the breast milk that your baby consumes, but it can also be made potentially an unhealthy diet for your baby by the ketones.

Here are some suggestions you might find helpful (both for losing weight and to provide a well-balanced diet for you and your baby):

1. Create a daily diet which is fruit and vegetable rich! Fruits and vegetables are not only healthy, providing much needed nutrients, but they also promote weight loss in a safe manner.
2. Limit your milk intake and make sure it is skim! Stay away from processed dairy products, like cheeses.
3. Limit your bread intake and only eat “grain” varieties.
4. Use sugar substitutes as suggested by your doctor. Avoid refined sugars and anything made with them.
5. Limit your intake of all types of fat!
6. Make sure you do moderate exercise. Walking outside twice a day for about a half hour is all it takes!

None of these suggestions should be too surprising. Most are just common sense and have been suggestions for many Americans who wish to drop some pounds.

However, know that when you are breastfeeding you may find yourself hungrier than you have ever been before. This is your body’s way of requiring you to eat a nutrient rich diet. Men and women who have never breastfed may not understand this “hunger”, so they will not be able to identify with your feelings about food during this time. Just know that by slowly losing you may have to put off getting into that pre-pregnancy pair of jeans, but you are also providing the healthiest, most complete nutrition for your baby’s growth and well-being.

To you new moms out there: It took you nine months to put the weight on! Give yourself at least that long to take it off. You’ll be better off and so will your baby!

So the new year has come and you’ve resolved to finally lose that extra weight. What do you do next? The next step you take can make a huge difference when it comes to the success of your weight loss program. A well thought out diet and exercise program has a good shot at success, while a less well thought out program may be domed to early failure.
When it comes to the success of any New Year’s resolution, no matter what it may be, attitude can make all the difference in the world. It is a good idea to look at the new year as a fresh start, and to avoid reliving any past failures when it comes to weight loss and fitness. Think of this new weight loss plan as a new start, and take the new program seriously.

When it comes time to set goals for fitness, weight loss and proper nutrition, perhaps nothing is more motivating than putting those goals down on paper. Writing down specific, and realistic, weight loss and fitness goals is a great way to provide the motivation you will need to carry on.

While you are writing, it is a good idea to start keeping a food and exercise diary. Writing down each piece of food you eat, and each exercise session, is another good way to stay motivated. A good diary is also a great way to recognize any deficiencies in the diet.

When it comes to eating properly, it pays to have a plan as well. It is a good idea to spend some time on the weekend shopping for healthy food and preparing healthy snacks and meals for the coming week. One of the biggest reasons people turn to unhealthy fast food is the convenience factor. By making healthy food convenient, it will be easier to keep your resolution and eat a healthier diet long term.

Exercise is an important factor to success as well. No fitness and weight loss program can succeed without being paired with a good exercise program. By exercising on a regular basis, you will be able to enjoy a higher energy level, and a greater feeling of well being, both important factors to long term success.

Exercising with a friend can boost your chances of sticking with the exercise program through the tough times. Having a friend who can motivate you to exercise when you would rather not is a real secret to success, so why not convince a friend to join you in your weight loss and fitness resolution?

However, one of the most important factors which determines how quickly our bodies gain or shed pounds is our metabolism.

There are of course many factors that go into weight loss and weight gain, including exercise, fitness level and diet. However, one of the most important factors which determines how quickly our bodies gain or shed pounds is our metabolism. While much of our body’s metabolism is dictated by genetics, it is possible to raise metabolism level through a combination of training and other methods. While there are any number of products that claim to raise metabolism, in fact the tried and true methods of raising metabolism are somewhat more limited. Let’s look at a few simple methods for raising metabolism and losing more weight.

Strength Training
Strength training has long been recognized for its effect on metabolism, and in fact many of those who start a quality strength training program find that a side benefit is faster metabolism and enhanced fat loss.

The great thing about using strength training and other exercises to boost metabolism is that the benefits continue 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A faster metabolism means more calories burned, whether you are exercising, working or even sleeping.

Building More Muscle
In study after study, science has shown us that muscle burns more calories than fat. Therefore, raising the level of lean muscle and reducing the level of fat in the body can have a profound impact not only on fitness by on metabolism as well.

In fact, using body building and other training methods is a good way to provide a greater fitness level and burn more calories throughout the day.

Don’t Skimp on the Protein
Many dieters skimp on the amount of meat and dairy products they eat, but in fact it is a good idea to eat plenty of protein when trying to lose weight. Eating a diet that is high in lean sources of protein, like lean meats, skinless chicken and low fat dairy products, is important to the growth and maintenance of muscle tissue.

Likewise, starving yourself to lose weight, or skipping meals, will be counterproductive. When you skip meals, your body thinks it is starving, and it takes steps to protect itself from what it perceives as famine. That means that metabolism is lowered, and the existing body fat is guarded jealously by the body. Skipping meals may seem like a fast way to lose weight, but in fact it is just the opposite.

Eat Smaller and More Frequent Meals
In fact, just the opposite strategy is one of the best ways to boost metabolism. Eating small meals throughout the day, rather than two or three larger ones, is a good way to keep your metabolism working at peak efficiency throughout the day. Of course it is important that those meals consist of high quality foods, like fruits, vegetables, fiber rich grains and high quality low fat sources of protein.

Products

The Hollywood diet includes numerous products depending on your goals.

Hollywood diet pills called MetaMiracle contain a variety of vitamins, minerals and diet aids including green tea (a natural stimulant), guarana (another stimulant, naturally occurring ephedrine) and herbal extracts.

The other half of the fen-phen blend was phentermine, a drug that is still available by prescription in the US. Phentermine is also sold under the brand names Adipex-P, Obenix and Oby-Trim. To get discount phentermine, ask your doctor to prescribe the generic rather than the name brand.

Currently, you cannot buy phentermine without prescription in the US legally. Should you intend to purchase phentermine with no prescription from outside the US, bringing it into the US can be punishable by law.

There are two dosages of phentermine 37.5mg and 30mg. Unless your doctor recommends the larger of the two doses, opt for the 30mg. Due to the encapsulation of the phentermine, half-doses are not possible.

There are two considerations for anyone who wants to lose weight. The first is diet; the second is exercise. By “diet” we mean everything you put into your body; by “exercise” we mean every means you use to get it out again. A good weight loss program will have three facets; two will be diet-related (cutting calories and increasing the nutrition in your food) and one, of course, is exercise related. Let’s look at exercise first.
Finding an exercise that works up a bit of a sweat but is still enjoyable is important. A 45-minute walk every morning before work is ideal. Walking is the most natural of human activities. Mankind was made to walk; now, thanks to cars, planes, elevators, escalators, and rolling swivel chairs, we need never walk more than a few yards at a time.

Whatever exercise you do, try to do it first thing in the morning if you possibly can. Early-morning exercise “sets” your metabolism, so that through the rest of the day, even when you’re sitting and driving, you’re burning more calories than you would have without that morning exercise.

The second facet of any successful weight loss program is, of course, cutting back on your calories. This is the difficult part. When you set out to lose weight, you are essentially giving your body fewer calories than it needs. Your body is forced to turn to the calories it had stored up for “famine” in the form of fat. As your body uses these stored fat calories, you lose weight. But—as anyone who has ever dieted before knows—it is a very uncomfortable process. And why not? Your body is essentially eating itself by using up those fat reserves.

Remind yourself every time you feel those hunger pains that what you feel is your body actually “eating” your fat. If you eat something when you feel hungry, you give your body something else to eat, and it stops eating those fat reserves. Which, of course, brings us to our final point.

Last but not least, it is essential that you increase the nutrition of your food when you want to lose weight. If you were eating a hamburger, a side of fries, and a coke for two meals a day every weekday, don’t think that by simply skipping lunch, ditching the fries, and going with diet cola, you will lose weight successfully. You won’t. Instead, you will become tired, worn down, and easily stressed. Weight loss should be a happy time, as we purge ourselves of fat and impurities. Of course your energy levels will decrease the first week or so as your body adjusts to new exercise routines, new food restrictions, and the “self-cannibalism” you impose on it. But if you get your vital nutrition, every day that passes will find you feeling better, healthier, and more energetic than the one before. That doesn’t happen when you eat one burger instead of two, and nothing else.

Instead, focus on getting more nutrition into your diet. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and eat them raw as often as possible. Cooking destroys nutrition, so if you do cook them, steam them instead of boiling them. Baby carrots, celery sticks, broccoli florets and radishes are all examples of foods that are delicious raw. And celery and radishes have another advantage. They are “free” vegetables (meaning that they have so few calories, you burn away any calories they give you just in chewing and digesting them). If you were constantly satisfying your craving for munchies with candy bars, potato chips, popcorn, and hard candy, then each night before you go to bed, prepare five or ten small sandwich bags full of washed and cut celery and radishes. Snack on them every time you feel a craving for a candy bar or a handful of potato chips. Instead of getting too many calories and no nutrition, you’ll be getting no calories worth counting, and plenty of nutrition!

Drinking lots of water is also important when you begin a weight loss program. Find a 32-oz. bottle and make sure you fill it and drink it at least twice a day, preferably three times. You’re probably already familiar with all the health and weight loss benefits of drinking water (flushes the system, eliminates toxins, purifies the kidneys, increases energy, improves blood flow to the brain, and on and on the list goes), but did you know that it also helps to curb your runaway appetite? Whenever you feel hungry, drink water. (This, by the way, is an excellent way of making sure you get your 8 glasses a day; if you’re depriving your body of the food it was accustomed to, you’re going to feel hungry more than 8 glasses worth per day.) Water makes your stomach feel full, so it stops complaining, and it also gives your hands and mouth something to do. You might be surprised how much of our eating is fueled by bored mouths.

Balance out these three elements, and you can be sure of a successful weight loss program that leaves you feeling fit, trim, sexy, and energetic. Leave out one element, and the whole thing will fall apart.

Water and weight loss have a love-hate relationship. Drinking water is essential to burning fat effectively; think of water as the “oil” that keeps all your moving parts “running” effectively. Water supports and sustains and nourishes our bodies. It gives us the energy to burn calories efficiently. Water is essential to weight loss.
But water has weight of its own. Eating salty foods causes you to retain water, as do alcohol and other factors. You can “gain” as much as two to five pounds in one night, just by eating salty foods that cause you to retain water. If you’ve gained pounds from eating salted nuts or other salty foods, the best way to get that extra weight off is, oddly enough, to drink water. This flushes the salt out of your system and encourages your kidneys to function properly, helping to keep the water flowing into your system, doing what it’s supposed to do, and then flowing out again.

There’s another way water and the lack thereof can mess with your weight loss. If you’re habitually dehydrated, you weigh less. It can be incredibly demoralizing for the overweight person to read about how important water is to effective weight loss, vow to begin drinking their 8 to 10 glasses a day—and actually gain weight over the next few days!

If you’re looking for stable, long-term weight loss, then drinking your full amount of water daily is essential. But how can you avoid the emotional rollercoaster of gaining and losing weight in relation to your water consumption?

First of all, be consistent. Drink your water every day, and don’t skip. This is very important if you want to see constant, steady results in your weight loss.

Second, be aware. Know that drinking water will create small spikes in your scale weight. This isn’t extra fat and it isn’t excess calories; it just means that you are now properly hydrated. You may gain an extra pound or two at first, but proper hydration means that those pounds that actually are fat will melt away much faster. In this case, short-term gains lead to long-term losses!

Third, avoid salt and salty foods whenever possible. This doesn’t just include those peanuts and potato chips; it also includes most soft drinks, prepared foods (TV dinners, microwaveable rice, etc.), and of course that sprinkle of salt you add to the food on your plate. Become aware of nutrition labels; compare sodium when choosing between two foods. Wean yourself away from adding extra salt to meals. Stick with low-sodium soft drinks, or, better still, cut them out altogether. (Many “diet” drinks still contain sodium; check the labels!)

Once you have your water-weight relationship sorted out and it’s steady, you’re prepared to lose more weight and keep it off longer than you ever have before.

Even if you are looking to lose weight, you should still follow a balanced diet. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to lose weight whilst still eating healthily. The key is to cut down on unhealthy snacks and eat food from each of the major food groups in moderation.
When most people try to lose weight, they dramatically cut down on the amount of food that they eat. This might sound logical, but it is not necessarily the right thing to do. Your body needs vital vitamins and minerals in order to survive, and many of the fashionable “crash diets” simply do not cater for this. The healthier way to lose weight is to reduce the amount of calories that you consume on a gradual basis, whilst increasing the amount of exercise that you do. This will burn off any excess energy that your body would otherwise store as fat.

It is always tempting to skip meals (especially breakfast) if you are trying to lose weight, but this is actually one of the worst things you can do. It will make you far hungrier later on in the day, prompting you to actually add calories to your daily intake, rather than cut down on them. As you will need extra energy to make up for the missed meal, your choice of food is likely to be something unhealthy that will give you a sugar boost. In addition, irregular eating patterns can play havoc with your body’s metabolism, which is ultimately responsible for how easily you can lose or gain weight.

There are plenty of ways that you can reduce your calorie intake without dramatically reducing your vitamin and mineral intake too. Swap fizzy drinks, alcohol and caffeinated drinks for water or fruit juice, and drink skimmed milk rather semi-skimmed. Subtle changes such as these will help you to lose weight in the long term without cutting out the nutrients that your body need.

Switching to a healthier diet that is full of fresh fruit and vegetables is likely to help you to lose weight naturally. As you are not going to be eating the processed junk food and ready meals that so many people opt for these days, there will be very little hidden fat in your food. These are the kinds of food that you really need to cut down on, as they offer no real nutritional value. They also contain lots of unhealthy sugar, salt and fat and do not satisfy your appetite for very long, which means that you will feel compelled to eat more.

Just about every day and in many places you might look, such as billboards, TV, magazines, and online, you are confronted with ads about the need for dieting and weight loss. Face it, those who most likely are the candidates for it already know it. Most people naturally compare themselves with others that are around them. You do not need to be reminded. Better yet, though, would be some real encouragement and simplified tips as to which diet might work best.
A quick look online brings a lot of results – and they all cannot be right. How true that is. This can often result in confusion and – even worse – hesitation on starting that needed diet plan. After all, since it is so confusing, how can you, who are not a doctor, know which diet plan is best for you? Sadly, you do not know, and it will require a bit of knowledge and some trial and error to discover the right one or the best one. Many times, however, not knowing can prove to be an excuse in itself. Some people would rather stay ignorant – that way they can keep convincing themselves that they do not know where to begin – and they continue to do nothing.

The truth often is, however, that you do know some things that you ought to eliminate from your daily eating. Most people know that he or she should eat less starches, sugar, desserts, and those calorie and salt-laden fast foods. Without even knowing any more than that, you can start now to replace these items with more nutritious and healthier vegetables and fruits.

Besides starting a weight loss program simply to look better, here are some serious three reasons why a diet and weight loss program should be started today.

1. Because Weight Loss Will Enable You To Feel Better About Yourself

While this is certainly a standard answer as to why you should start a weight loss program, it is nevertheless true. As anyone who has lost a few pounds has quickly discovered, he or she not only feels better, but also may actually think a little clearer, as well.

Lose a few pounds and the difference in the way you feel about yourself will actually encourage you to lose a few more pounds. Then, you may hear some people start to comment – “Have you lost some weight?” Sounds good – doesn’t it. You will also know that you have begun to do something that you know you should have started some time ago. Even a little bit of a weight loss can start to bring about those feelings about yourself that you are glad to think – and you actually will not need to avoid those mirrors.

2. Because Diet And Weight Loss Will Empower You To Enjoy Better Health

Another reason to start that diet today is because you can enjoy better health and a more active lifestyle. Most have already heard about the epidemic of diseases like diabetes that is now sweeping our country. America has enjoyed the fast foods too long. Now, just like it was put on, the pounds need to come off – one at a time. Being overweight also causes some other diseases, too, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and even cancer has a greater likelihood of starting just because of the extra pounds.

Weight loss is easier to start early – when you need to – not 5 or 10 years later. Habits become more solidly ingrained the longer they are practiced. It also is easier to start if you still enjoy rather good health, as opposed to when the doctor demands you must because medical complications are starting to set in.

3. Because You Can Save Some Money

This reason is not to just state the obvious – that you could save money on your food bill. While that may very well be true, there are other areas where even larger savings can be enjoyed. Two of these are health insurance and doctor visits and the medicine that he or she prescribes.

Although these areas may not affect you just yet – they soon will. Health insurers do take weight into their calculation when your premium is determined. Weighing above what is considered to be acceptable norms means you will pay a higher premium – because they know you will sooner or later cost them more money than the average person – in doctor’s visits and prescriptions.

Get Started Today

The benefits of weight loss through watching your diet and deliberately reducing the wrong type of foods will help you to get started. The key, however, is not waiting until tomorrow to begin, but doing it now – today. Another incentive is that there are many diet menus available and various diet programs that actually can provide you with some food that tastes good – and is low on the calories, too. Even better yet is that there are some good diet foods that will also keep the hunger down, making it much easier to keep on your diet. By getting started today, and watching those calories, who knows how many pounds you could lose between now and a week from now?

If you are one of the many women who are struggling to lose those last few stubborn pounds, you are certainly not alone. Many women are becoming increasingly unhappy with their figures, and with the media’s endless portrayal of stick-thin celebrities, this is unlikely to change anytime soon. Fortunately, you do not have to go as far as denying yourself the foods that you love in order to lose weight. Of course, losing weight still requires some degree of willpower, but at the same time, it does not mean existing on 500 calories per day. How can you lose weight without giving up your favorite foods?
The easiest way to lose weight is to cut down on the amount of food that you eat. This does not mean that you need to drastically limit the amount of food in your diet, as this is not the healthy way to lose weight. Even if you plan to lose quite a bit of weight, it is better to do so gradually to give your body time to adjust. If you try to lose a lot of weight in a very short time period (as in a “crash diet”), your body will protect against potential starvation by storing fat (especially around your stomach). This means that you may well lose weight, but you will not necessarily lose the stubborn pounds around your abdomen – no matter how much weight you lose. This is a common scenario that causes many women to carry on losing weight; they mistakenly believe that they will eventually shift the extra pounds if they lose enough weight.

As weight loss relies on burning more calories than you consume, you will obviously need to cut down on your food intake. If you are not the kind of person who can easily eat less food, exercise can play a big part in this. As long as you exercise on a regular basis, you should burn plenty of calories. Combining exercise with eating less food is the fastest and healthiest way to lose weight, as long as it is done within reason, and you do not exercise too excessively, or cut out too much food.

Losing weight does not have to mean denying yourself or starving yourself. You can still enjoy your favorite foods, as long as you eat them in moderation, and take the time to exercise regularly.

Do you find it tough to stick to a diet? Are you struggling to stay on your regimen, but aren’t losing weight? You might be making one or more of the most common dieting mistakes. Knowing what to watch out for will help you stick to your diet and actually lose some weight!
Thinking about food. Stop thinking about how you are depriving yourself, dreaming of a Big Mac, and distract yourself. Instead of staying in the house moping or staring into the fridge at the forbidden food that your husband will be eating later on, get out and get active. Take a hike, hit the beach, enjoy life! Staying busy is the best way to forget that you are on a diet.

Eating too fast. Just because you are on a diet doesn’t mean you have to scarf your food down. In fact, you will feel fuller if you slow down and enjoy each bite. Chew your food 10 times to slow yourself down. It can take up to 20 minutes for your stomach to send the full signal to your brain, so by eating slowly, you will stop feeling hungry before you finish your meal, as opposed to finishing and still being hungry.

Not eating breakfast. Studies show that those who avoid breakfast actually consume more calories throughout the day. That first meal of the day is important to get your metabolism running, too. By starving yourself for too long, you are telling your body to go into starvation mode, where it will begin to stockpile fat!

Forgetting the liquids. Don’t just calorie count when it comes to solid food. Everything you drink, except water, is going to have some calories in it. Alcohol and sodas are the worst offenders. A bottle of your favourite beer will add about 160 calories to your daily intake, so a night on the town can really add up! Even wine isn’t safe at around 130 calories for 5 oz. glass.

Overestimating portion size. You might have a general idea of how big a 2 oz chunk of chicken is, but it’s a good idea to get a small kitchen scale and start actually weighing your food or measure it with your measuring cups. Why? Because chances are you are really overestimating how much you can eat while losing weight.

Adding dressings and condiments. A sprinkling of dried parsley won’t hurt your diet, but a tablespoon or two of Ranch dressing on your salad might. Most of us don’t actually measure when we spread mayonnaise on bread or pour dressing onto our salad. We figure we know how much is going on. By measuring, you’ll know exactly how many calories you are adding to your meal.

Spacing out. Have you ever been watching TV and eating popcorn or cookies and suddenly you realize that you’ve eaten an entire bag and didn’t even notice? This actually has a name, eating amnesia. It is also called mindless eating and it is one of the worst enemies of the diet. To avoid this common problem, don’t eat anywhere except seated at the table, where you are focused on the act of eating.

Everyone wants a miracle cure for weight loss. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could eat anything we wanted, whenever we wanted and never gain weight? Unfortunately, the human body doesn’t quite work that way. Unless there is some miracle pill, exercise and diet is simply the answer. Ultra 90, however, is a diet pill that claims to be the miracle we are all looking for. Could this be true? Here is a review of the diet pill Ultra 90.

Does it Work?
The big question on everyone’s mind is: Does it work? There is some debate about this issue. While some folks claim they have lost 3 dress sizes and 20 pounds in 90 days, others claim no real success. One of the stipulations of using the Ultra 90 pill is a 3 hour fast before bedtime each night. Using this trick alone, folks could lose weight. Unfortunately, it is unknown if the fasting or the Ultra 90 pill is responsible for the weight loss success of it’s users.

It also claims to boost energy. Unfortunately, most folks see no boost in energy while using Ultra 90.

How Does it Work?
The company that makes the diet pill Ultra 90 claims that all the ingredients are natural. It uses things such as collagen, safflower oil, and fish oils to trick the body into losing weight. They claim it helps people burn more fat by fueling the lean muscle.

Unfortunately, collagen protein has never been proven to help people lose weight. It is actually a low quality protein that probably does little for lean muscle.

Is it Dangerous?
The good thing about Ultra 90 is that it is not dangerous. All the ingredients are natural and it does nothing to speed up the heart. There is no caffeine or any substance that would keep you up at night.

Where Can I Purchase It?
Ultra 90 is all over. You can purchase it online or at any local nutritional store. The price used to fairly expensive at about $50 per bottle. Now, however, the price has become much lower. Sometimes you can even find deals for half the price. Now you can typically purchase a bottle for about $30.

If you want help losing weight, and have an extra $30 to spend, there is no harm in trying Ultra 90. Although some feel it has no impact on their weight, others have had success. The only way to know if Ultra 90 will work for you is to try it yourself.
